Record-Breaking $4.875M Alameda Home Sale

16 Killarney Place | 6 Bed | 4.5 Bath | 4,194sqft

A home in Harbor Bay just sold for $4.875 million. That makes it the most expensive home ever sold in Alameda.

The custom-built house at 16 Killarney Place has 6 bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, and just over 4,100 square feet of space. It sits right on the water in Harbor Bay Isle. Inside, you'll find an open living area, a wine room, and a three-car garage with a Tesla charger.

The home was built in 1999 and went through a big remodel between 2018 and 2020.

The last record was set in 2022, when a home in the Gold Coast sold for $4.75 million. This sale tops that by $125,000. If you do the math, the Killarney home sold for about $1,162 per square foot.

The sale was brokered by the Kate McCaffrey Group, which has represented several of Alameda's highest-value transactions. Read More

Webster Tube Nighttime Closures Start April 5

Starting this Sunday, the Webster Tube will shut down every night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. This will happen Sunday through Thursday nights. The closures are part of a big road project by Caltrans to make the connections between Alameda and Oakland safer and easier to use.

If you take the bus late at night, heads up. AC Transit lines 19, 30, 51A, 96, O, and 851 will all take a detour over the Park Street Bridge instead. That adds about 15 minutes to your trip.

The good news? They're also building a new bike and walking path inside the Webster Tube, plus fixing up sidewalks and intersections nearby. The not-so-good news? The whole project will take about three years.

Don't worry. The Posey Tube and the Webster Tube will never be closed at the same time. If you need to get on or off the island late at night, the Posey Tube will still be open.

Alameda High School Names New Principal

Alameda High School has a new principal. The school board approved the hire of Alex Harp at its March 24 meeting.

Harp comes from the San Lorenzo Unified School District, where he runs two high schools: East Bay Arts High and Royal Sunset High. Before that, he worked as a middle school principal, an assistant principal, and a teacher. He studied French at UCLA and got his master's degree at CSU East Bay.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Alameda High School and look forward to learning, leading, and working collaboratively with students, staff, families and the community," Harp said.

He takes over for Angela Barrett, who is leaving at the end of this school year. Harp starts in the fall.
