NEWS

Early Morning Smash-and-Grabs Hit 9 Alameda Businesses

Early Monday morning, around 3:00 a.m., nine Alameda businesses were burglarized in a series of smash-and-grab break-ins across the island.

According to the Alameda Police Department, officers were able to quickly link the incidents together using evidence from multiple scenes. With the help of Automated License Plate Reader technology, police located the suspect vehicle within hours.

With assistance from neighboring agencies, three individuals were detained. Two were arrested on unrelated charges, and the investigation is ongoing. Police believe the group may also be connected to similar crimes in other cities.

APD has not released a full list of affected businesses, but a few local shops shared updates:

Malaya Tea Room (920 Central Ave)**
Shared that while no cash was taken, windows were damaged. They plan to reopen soon.

Doodlecakes (647 Central Ave)**
Posted with humor that burglars made off with $10 from a tip jar and left behind a stolen register from Mountain Mike’s Pizza - 714 Central Ave on the sidewalk.

The community response has been strong, with many residents thanking APD and encouraging everyone to support the impacted small businesses.

If you’ve been meaning to grab tea, cupcakes, or pizza, this might be a good week to show some extra love. Read More

New SF Bay Ferry Schedules Start Monday, March 9

Starting Monday, March 9, SF Bay Ferry will implement system-wide schedule changes to increase reliability and improve connections for morning commuters. The update includes a new early-morning trip from Oakland to San Francisco to assist UCSF commuters, alongside several adjustments to the Alameda Seaplane, Harbor Bay, and South San Francisco routes. While some mid-morning trips are being eliminated due to low ridership or route restructuring, new midday and late-night options are being added to better serve current travel patterns. Residents are encouraged to check the full timetables online, as many existing departure times have shifted by 5–15 minutes. View Schedule Changes

The Dinner Club was insane!

I’m still a little shocked, in the best way, by the turnout last night. Thank you to everyone who came out to the Alameda Dinner Club!

A lot of you said the surprise dinner location added to the fun, and it sounded like people really enjoyed their tables and conversations. I did hear the after-party felt a bit tight, so next time I’ll make sure we have a larger space to hang out afterward.

It was honestly such a good time getting to meet more people around Alameda, and I’m planning to run it again next month!

If you’ve been thinking about coming, want to bring a friend, or just want to try it out yourself, you can use code ALAMEDA5 for $5 off.

The next Dinner Club is Tuesday, March 24. Hope to see you there.
