ISLAND UPDATES

UPDATE | The Clement & Tilden Way Improvement Project

Source: The City of Alameda | Updated Jan 12, 2026

Work is officially underway on Tilden Way, one of the primary gateways for those entering and leaving Alameda through the Fruitvale Bridge.

What is happening now?

Whether you are entering or leaving Alameda from the Fruitvale Bridge, please be aware of new traffic patterns. Currently, the right lane is closed for traffic heading into the city. This closure begins immediately as you exit the bridge and extends all the way to the corner of Broadway and Tilden Way. Because this main entry point is reduced to a single lane, traffic will be slower in the area, especially during the morning commute. Read More

Why the Work?

The primary goal of this project is community safety. Over the last ten years, there were 21 bad crashes in this small area. These infrastructure changes are specifically designed to prevent these accidents and make the corridor safer for everyone.

What is happening next?

Starting in February, construction will expand to Fernside Boulevard. You will see new cones and signage between Tilden Way and Blanding Avenue as crews begin work on a new roundabout. This large traffic circle is a key feature of the plan, designed to calm traffic and make the intersection significantly safer. Read More

Community Benefits & New Features

While construction can be a temporary headache, the project will bring several permanent upgrades to Alameda:

  • A New Dog Park: A new park for our four-legged neighbors will be built at the corner of Tilden and Blanding, utilizing reclaimed road space.

  • Safe Walking Paths: New pedestrian paths will be installed to provide a safe, direct walk from local homes to the Bridgeside Shopping Center.

  • Expanded Bike Lanes: New lanes will connect Tilden Way to the Cross Alameda Trail, making it much easier and safer to bike to the Fruitvale BART station.

UPDATE | Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Parking & Security

Source: The City of Alameda & Wong Logan Architects

Starting Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the morning routine at the Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Terminal is changing to improve safety and parking availability.

What to Expect: The city is adding new services to help the lot run better during the busy midweek rush. These updates include:

  • A dedicated security guard on-site to watch over vehicles.

  • A $3 daily parking fee on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

  • Free parking on Mondays, Fridays, and all weekends.

  • Mobile payments through the ParkSmarter app so you can pay after boarding the boat.

Why the Change? The goal is to make sure neighbors who take the later 8:00 am or 9:00 am ferries can actually find a spot. This program also pays for the new security guard. It follows a similar plan that started at the Harbor Bay terminal last year, where nearly 80% of riders now use the mobile payment option. Read More
